Center of Government and Civic Services

CGCS (Center for Government and Civic Services) is a startup organization partnered with ACC to help students in three key focus areas; Public Services, Civic Leadership, and National and Human Security. These branches serves as missions to help bridge the gaps and unrealized potential and opportunities when it comes to students, and help them achieve their goals. Whether that be helping their community, career path, and pursuing further education.

To help bring their vision and brand to life there were key componets that ere needed for the client. We needed to take the logo and the brand guidelines from the last semester and create the deliverables that were needed.

Project Overview

This project was a two semester length broken up in to two parts. The first semester team worked on establish the start of the brand such as color, type, graphic elements, and creative brief. These files were then off boarded for the new team in the second term to pick up the continues of establishing the visual brand and accomplishing outreach. The second would be my team

Meeting Notes

To gain knowledge of the clients needs we took a couple of actions to gather this information. We had a kick off meeting that included questions such as; priorities, what platform they would like their site to be on, any key words, and more. We also had meetings with the client where we would take notes and make necessary changes to the deliverables

Challenges

During this project there was a lot of different challenges. First challenge being I was in another team for, the ACC Fashion Department working on deliverbles surrounding the visions logo for the upcoming showcase. I had been on this project already for a semester and was supposed to continue it the second semester. However, the CGCS team lost two members, and 2 months in the semester I was pulled for my team to join them. This was a learning adjustment, but I accepted the challenge.

Around this time I was dealing with a lot of personal life events at once. I was having major creative block at this point and worried I was going to let my new team down.

The last challenge was dealing with issues with the client. We we're constantly getting new mood boards for every deliverables and we had to make sure those mood boards were staying on brand from the original established mood board from the previous semester. Communication with the client wasn't always the greatest, and there were times hearing back from the client took awhile. There was new voices ever deliverable whenever we asked for feedback. (To many cooks in the kitchen)

However, the client was also learning just like us. We we're a whole new team who had lost people and gained a person. On the other side was a previous student who used to be on this team from the previous semester, and now was an intern for CGCS. So instead of making the designs they now were learning decision making. There was learning on both sides.

Reflections

There was a lot that I learned during this project

  • Learned to be flexible

  • Proper Communication is Key

  • When a new group is formed have a meeting with the client to reestablish needs and make sure everyone is on the same page

  • Support from your team is everything

  • Have patience (especially with a start up, their still finding their voice)

  • Too many cooks in the kitchen can create a poor dish

  • Stay organized, in case you ever need to go back to something or show proof ( there was a time the client wanted a specific design, and we gave it to them. They later asked why we did that, and I had to pull up the notes where they stated this is what they wanted)

  • Don't allow the client to get you hung up on a deliverable (took a month for stickers, and was the longest time spend, but the smallest item)

  • It's okay to let the client take more control in the design process (especially for new start up ones)
